Everybody, Everywear: Pattern Mixing

9 Aug

It’s pattern mixing day for Everybody, Everywear! I’ve dabbled in pattern mixing before, mostly using stripes or polka dots as a base print. To me, they are the two easiest patterns to mix with others. Today I went a little outside my pattern mixing comfort zone to combine a striped shirt with an ikat print skirt.

Everybody, Everywear: Pattern Mixing(As you can probably tell, a forest critter decided to join my photo today, ha!)

I am by no means an expert pattern mixer, but here is the “method” to my madness. Personally, I think it helps to mix patterns which have a common color. Additionally, accessorizing with the common color really helps make the patterns work together more fluidly. Since black is the common color for my patterns, I chose to wear my wide black belt along with a few similarly toned bracelets. Overall, I am really liking the effect of this combination!

There is even a “hidden” third pattern in this outfit – the wedge part of my shoes has a zebra print!

ADORE the skirt! And the whole look is so crisp and polished, even with its ethnic elements. I found you through EBEW–stop by and say hi if you have a sec this week!

Gorgeous! Love the outfit, the colors, those darling shoes, and the deer in the background. And I’m way jealous of your porcelain skin!

That deer is great! I thought it must have been a garden statue until you wrote otherwise. And your outfit – excellent! The stripes with the pattern of the skirt is great. I’m a novice pattern mixer and I’m loving the inspiration. You rocked the EBEW challenge!
