One of my husband and I’s favorite food traditions is making homemade pizza. We started making our own pizza together while we were dating in college. Being the broke college kids we were, ordering a pizza was just not an option all the time. Back then, we would buy the pre-baked Boboli crusts. Nowadays, we buy a ball of pizza dough from Wegmans. Someday soon I would like to try making our own dough from scratch. We have a breadmaker with a dough setting, which I will probably try out first.
It is always my husband’s job to roll out the dough since he does a much better job than I. And yes, that is a heart-shaped pizza above, haha. We usually make our own small pizzas so we can top them however we want. My favorite toppings are ricotta, turkey pepperoni, garlic, mushrooms, arugala, and lots of spices. He usually opts for turkey pepperoni, green peppers, mushrooms, and lots of sauce. We bake the pizzas according to the instructions on the dough package, usually about 15 minutes.
Making pizza at home can be a great way to use up leftovers too! In the past, we’ve tossed leftover chicken with buffalo sauce for a topping. I’ve also used the remnants of a jar of olives paired with crumbled feta cheese and chopped spinach for a Greek style pizza. The possibilities are endless.
A typical pizza night in our household means sitting on the fireplace hearth catching up on our favorite TV shows. These are some of my favorite low key nights at home!
This looks yummmehh!!! It’s also always more satisfying to eat something you’ve made yourself, isn’t it?
Seriously, heart-shaped pizza? That’s so cute!!
